It’s been an interesting week here at Cozy. Everyone is in a panic because their air conditioner is broke and we are working as fast as we can to help everyone get the parts they need.

One interesting issue that we have noticed this week is clairvoyant HVAC servicers. The hot weather brings them out. What is a clairvoyant HVAC servicer? A clairvoyant is a servicer that can diagnose your problem with no tools, or even opening the unit to take voltage readings and pressures.

We have had two people this week that hired A “professional” to diagnose their issue. In both cases, they were told that the fan motor was out on their condenser. These diagnosis’s were both made without the benefit of taking and voltage readings, or even opening the air conditioner to check anything. In both cases, owner’s purchased new fan motors based on what appears to be a clairvoyant diagnosis. Tge owner’s purchased new fan motors and installed them to find out that the problem was not the fan motor at all. The real issue was defective fan motor run capacitors. In both cases, the clairvoyant servicers had quoted the owners ridiculously high prices to replace the motor, so the owner’s chose to make the repair themselves. Evidently clairvoyant servicers are expensive too.

When it gets hot, many legitimate companies get a back log of work, and many owner’s will accept the first person they can get to show up and solve their issue. Be sure to use common sense when accepting a diagnosis from ANY company. Would you buy a new car engine from an automobile repair place that told you that you needed a new engine without even opening the hood of your car? Of course not!

Being miserably hot is no fun. Even under a stressful situation like trying to survive in 100 degree plus weather, you need to step back and take a good look at the situation before you accept a diagnosis at face value. And, of course, if your not somewhat skilled at doing the kind of work that needs to be done, let the professionals do it.
