| Anyone have Lennox CB26UH-018 air handlers with large amounts of mold on the blower panel or inside the air handler. We have several hundred that have this problem that are only 2 years old. |

Mold is not that uncommon anytime you have dark, wet and cold spaces, however there is several things that can cause the problem to be worse than normal.
Make sure the unit has a proper trap with the proper amount of lift in the trap (we suggest 2" or more to be on the safe side).
Make sure there is no "vent" between the drain connecton on the air handler and the trap.
Make sure the air flow is set up correctly for the unit.
Make sure the indoor coil is clean and oil free.

| For mold to grow, it needs food ( Dust ), moisture and cool darkness. I've been in the HVAC industry for 28 years and agree that almost every air handler will have some mold over time. This amount of mold is alarming as it covers the entire blower panel and in some of the units, it's going down the duct. The loads are within limits for the spaces. The blower speeds have been set on "low" per the engineering report and T&B company. The install contractor used a one inch inline trap on the drain, the install guide required a 3" trap, if this was a high static unit, I would expect poor drainage. With the 018 on low speed I'm not convinced a larger trap would solve the mold problem. I would like to find another complex with these air handlers to compare effects and conditions. We have roughly 350 air handlers -018 and a few 2.5, 3 and 5 ton CB26UH---- with 13ACD condensers. The growth starts on the lower part of the blower access panel and then spreads. We had Lennox and thier independent IAQ rep out a couple of months ago but have not had a responce back from them, I'm getting disappointed in thier reponse time since we have a large number of students in this complex with unknown medical conditions. |

As you probably know, we can't speak for Lennox, but as far as we know, there is no known systemic issue with excessive mold in any of the air handlers. Our suggestion would be to continue working with Lennox and see if they can come up with answers. If they are not responding fast as you feel is necessary, you might want to get in contact with Lennox and ask them to expedite the matter.
We mostly see trap issues where high MERV rated filters are used causing excessive pressure drop. When you combine this issue with improperly designed traps, many times the unit will not drain.
